A 43-year-old woman was relieved of severe pain caused by a herniated disc, accompanied by paralysis not by an orthopedic surgeon, but by a spiritual healer.
Her ordeal began in November 2020: Mona Wendt (pseudonym), a 43-year-old project manager from Hesse, suddenly experienced severe pain and paralysis.
An orthopedist diagnosed a severe herniated disc in her cervical spine, between the fifth and sixth vertebrae (C5/6). He prescribed physical therapy – but this only made the pain worse, as the patient reports.
The doctor then referred her to a neurosurgeon. He tried “CT-guided facet joint infiltration and PRT (periradicular therapy)”: Under computed tomography visualization, Mona Wendt had anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving medications injected with millimeter precision into the facet joints or the irritated nerve root. The success prospects of this procedure are considered particularly high – usually, significant pain relief is felt after the first treatment.
But what good is a rule to a patient if they happen to be the exception? The first treatment brought Mona Wendt “no relief,” the second neither, nor the third. “At that point,” she explains, “I had already been on sick leave for over three months. I didn’t know if I would ever recover and be able to work again. Conventional medicine could no longer help me. The orthopedist and the neurosurgeon were both at a loss.”
Now it was time for her to try unconventional medicine. On January 1, 2021, she visited Carmen Butz. The experienced healer from the Auswege Foundation’s therapist network, a former tax specialist, treated her with craniosacral therapy and energy healing, had extensive conversations with her, and guided her through meditation.
Three more such sessions were held through March 31, 2021.
With what result?
“After the second session, four weeks after the start of treatment, I noticed a significant improvement,” the manager confirmed in writing. “The pressure pain in my cervical spine and shoulder had decreased considerably, as had the paralysis. A week after the third session, I was almost completely pain-free. After the fourth treatment, another four weeks later, the symptoms had completely disappeared.”
At the same time, the astonished patient also got rid of other health problems: “Heart rhythm disturbances, migraines, and sleep disorders have also not recurred to this day.”
Were any other therapies used concurrently with Carmen Butz’s treatment?
Did Ms. Wendt take any medication during this time? No – which suggests that alternative medicine played a decisive role here. The manager does not doubt it: “It was the sessions with Ms. Butz that made me healthy again. I owe it to her that I was able to resume my work. Since then, I have been leading a completely normal life without any limitations.”
