Chronically exhausted? Found a WAY out

Chronically exhausted? But in the AUSWEGE/WAYS OUT Camp, “I became a different person.”

The constant worry about her seriously ill son had been weighing on his mother for ten years, ever since his birth. She was chronically exhausted and suffered from constant back pain. It was only an AUSWEGE therapy camp that brought about the change: “I became a different person there,” she says.

For six years, Annelie* (50), a kindergarten teacher, suffered from back pain and tension in her neck. What bothered her even more was that she had “gradually developed” chronic fatigue syndrome over the last three to four years.

She constantly felt tired and exhausted, “everything is too much.” The main reason is “all the stress, the worries, the many appointments with my son,” Adrian*, who is now 10 years old.
Since birth, the boy has suffered from Smith-Magenis syndrome (SMS), named after two US geneticists:
a rare genetic disorder that causes mental retardation, behavioral problems, and physical abnormalities. In Adrian’s case, it leads to self-harm. He often has “difficulties with change and unpredictable situations” and exhibits “some autistic traits and repetitive behavior.”

In the summer of 2021, Annelies’ son developed epilepsy, with seizures occurring daily at times. It appears to be resistant to treatment; seven different antiepileptic drugs have failed to alleviate it. Since a
long stay in a specialist clinic, it has even worsened.
On top of that, Adrian has been suffering from sleep disorders since the end of his second year of life. “He is often awake for hours in the middle of the night,” reports his mother. Is it not understandable how such circumstances can chronically exhaust a mother?
To finally prioritize her own health, Annelie decided to attend an eight-day therapy camp run by the Auswege Foundation in the summer of 2025, accompanied by her son.
She booked a dozen sessions with eight therapists, utilizing unconventional healing methods, including traditional Chinese medicine, homeopathy, water shiatsu (“Watsu”), neural and foot reflexology therapy, spiritual psychotherapy, educational development therapy, and spiritual healing. “All the therapists are just great!” she marveled. “I felt understood and supported by them.”
Without exception, she gave all AUSWEGE helpers a grade of 1 twice: both for their therapeutic skills and for their “empathetic, confidence-inspiring, modest” behavior toward her.

So many magical moments

How beneficial were the intensive encounters with a “different” form of medicine for Annelie? Her exhaustion had “significantly decreased,” as had her back pain and tension, she noted in a patient questionnaire at Campende.
“I am no longer as emotionally unstable, I can endure more, I have found my strength.” “I am no longer as emotionally unstable, I can cope with more, I have found my strength.” Yes, she had “become a different
person than I was a week ago, when I was tense and uptight. I feel great!“ She had become ”more confident and consistent“ in her dealings with her son. ”I no longer let him boss me around, I set boundaries for him.”

Not only the team of therapists, “the whole camp, the place, the participants, the family atmosphere were extremely healing for me. I am so grateful that we were able to be here. I am taking away so much for myself and Adrian. I had so many magical moments full of energy and gained many new insights. THANK YOU, THANK YOU! We’ll be back!”
